WEST VIRGINIA FINISHES ROADTRIP SUNDAY AT REAL MARYLAND
Fairfax, Virginia: The Southern West Virginia King's Warriors dropped their third game in a row Saturday in a 2-1 defeat to the Northern Virginia Royals in Fairfax, Virginia.
Mulu Asihel scored the winning goal for the Royals in the 65th-minute,when he found himself all alone at the back post after taking a back-heel pass from Zach Bowman.The King's Warriors' Nana Yaw Mensah had just tied the game three minutes earlier on a deadly shot from just outside the 18-yard box off a pretty feed fromJason Keever. Southern West Virginia trailed 1-0 at halftime on a Northern Virginia goal by Sam Kaweesi. "We possessed the ball a lot better in the second half and we played pretty much in their end the whole game," said King's Warriors defender Sean Summerville. "It was a little execution in the final third that kind of let us down. That said, our team never gave up. We kept hunting and hunting for the tying goal. We kept hammering but we just couldn't finish." The 2-1 defeat was the King's Warriors fifth one-goal loss of the season, and dropped their overall record to 2-7-1 through ten games in their inaugural season in the United Soccer Leagues Premier Development League. Southern West Virginia's road record dipped to 1-4-0. The Royals improved their overall record to 4-3-2 and 2-3-2 at home. Erik Mozzo was in goal for Southern West Virginia and was the tough-luck loser again. Mozzo's record fell to 2-6-1. Southern West Virginia will conclude its two-game roadtrip Sunday in Rockville, Maryland with a match against the Real Maryland Monarchs with kick-off set for 6:00 p.m. Real Maryland comes into Sunday's home game with Southern West Virginia at 5-3-2, and are undefeated at home with a record of 3-0-0. The Monarchs won 3-2 at Fredericksburg Friday night in their last match.
The King's Warriors will return to Beckley for their next home game on Friday, June 29 when they'll host the Fredericksburg Hotspur at the Paul Cline Memorial Youth Sports Complex at 7:00 p.m. The following night, Saturday, June 30, Southern West Virginia will entertain the Palmetto FC Bantams at 7:00 p.m.
